Overview
This chapter explores the concepts of recruiting and interviewing. The recruiting process for most investment banks, including all of the bulge bracket banks and most of the larger boutiques, is highly formalized. The most important part of the recruiting process is the interviews. Nearly all interview questions can be segregated into two types. The first type is what is called fit questions or qualitative questions. The second type is technical questions. The chapter provides a discussion of what investment banks are looking for when hiring the two most junior‐level positions, analysts and associates. It discusses the recruiting process, including networking and informational interviews. The chapter concludes with a discussion of how to choose among multiple offers and how to start one's career as a great junior investment banker.
