تعتبر المدن الجديدة من أهم معالم التجدد في أنماط العمران الحضري في الجزائر وبديلا أمثل للتخفيف من ضغوط المدن الكبرى، تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى التعرف على عوامل نشأة المدن الجديدة في الجزائر، السياسة المبتهجة لها، لنوصد أهم المشكلات في عدد من المدن الجديدة الجزائرية انطلاقا من مشكلات في التكيف الاجتماعي والثقافي والتي كانت نتاجا لسياسة جمع فئات اجتماعية ذات مستويات وخلفيات مختلفة في مكان واحد والتي بدوها أفرزت مشكلات أخري فضلا عن عدم كفاية الخدمات ونقص في المرافق وإغفال عناصر أساسية في تخطيط وهيكلة مجالها الحضري مما أدي إلى خلل في الدور الوظيفي المنوط بها.
