يقول المؤلف بالمقدمة : لذلك حرصت على أن أضع الطريقة الصحيحة لأوجه استعمال كل حرف من الحروف التي يحتويها صندوق المطبعة الأميرية، وما دمت بصدد التحدث عن جمال الخط العربي وما يقتضيه تحقيق هذا الجمال من استعمال خاص لكل حرف من حروفه المتعمدة فإني أرى من الملائم أن أتحدث عن الفن العربي في الطباعة، وقد تضمن هذا المؤلف جميع طرق تجهيز الأطواق توضيب الفرم العربية والإفرنجية المستعملة بالمطبعة الأميرية وأهم الطرق الحديثة المستعملة في الخارج والتي يمكن الإفادة منها بالمطبعة.
