يدور هذا الكتاب حول تاريخ حرق الكتب سواء من قبل مؤليفها أو من قبل السلطة للمسلمين ولغير المسلمين للتاريخ القديم وللتاريخ المعاصر وفتعقب المؤلف تاريخ حرق الكتب منذ بدايات التاريخ وإلى وقتنا هذا سواء كان هذا الحرق للكتب من قبل أصحابها أو على يد أعدائها. وقد قام المؤلف بجهد جبار حيث ساح في مشارق الأرض ومغاربها يلاحق محارق الكتب والمكتبات، تلك التي جرت في الماضي البعيد أو في الحاضر القريب. حيث وثق المؤلف في كتابه تاريخ حرق الكتب وأتلافها بالحرق أو الغرق أو الدفن أو غسلها حتى يزول حبرها كتب كثيره أتلفت على يد أصحابها خافوا علي محتواها من بعدهم أو نتيجة اليأس كتب أخرى أتلفت علي يد السلطة.
