إن العلاقة الحقيقية بالدين لا تبدأ إلا عندما ننتقل من مجال الحقيقة لمجال المعنى حيث يصبح الناس هم من يصنعون حقيقة الدين بإيمانهم وليس العكس. من هنا فإن الأديان تملك نفس النصيب من الحقيقة لأن الإنسان نفسه ليس إلا صورة الله وروحه التي تبحث عن نفسها. لا يمكن للهوية الدينية إذن أن تحيل لا على الخصوصية ولا على امتلاك حصري للحقيقة. الله هو الهوية الحقيقية للبشر! أما ما عدا ذلك فليس إلا أوهام الهوية، وكلم ازداد وعي البشر بانتمائهم الخاص والمتميز إلا وشكلت الأديان مصدر صراع لا ينتهي.
