يجمع هذا الأطلس بين دفتيه عددا من الخرائط والرسوم لمكة المكرمة بلغت 130 شكلا وخريطة كان أقدمها في القرن الثاني الميلادي، وقد غطى فترة زمنية تمتد منذ ذلك التاريخ وحتى العصر الحديث في وجود الخرائط الرقمية، وتم تنسيق وتصنيف الخرائط فيه على مرحلتين زمنيتين : الأولى لخارئط ورسوم مكة المكرمة قبل العهد السعودي، والأخرى خلال العهد السعودي، مع الاهتمام بالوصف الدقيق لكل خريطة ورسم من حيث مصادرها وتاريخها ومحتواها ؛ بشكل يعطي فهما ووعيا وافيا لما تحمله تلك الخرائط والرسوم من فكر علمي وتاريخي وحضاري وتراثي لمكة المكرمة.
