Building Types and Functions
2015
This handbook introduces a methodical approach and pragmatic concept for the planning and design of changeable factories that act in strategic alliances to supply the ever-changing needs of the global market. In the first part, the change drivers of manufacturing enterprises and the resulting new challenges are considered in detail with focus on an appropriate change potential. The second part concerns the design of the production facilities and systems on the factory levels work place, section, building and site under functional, organisational, architectural and strategic aspects keeping in mind the environmental, health and safety aspects including corporate social responsibility. The third part is dedicated to the planning and design method that is based on a synergetic interaction of process and space. The accompanying project management of the planning and construction phase and the facility management for the effective utilization of the built premises close the book. The AuthorsProf. em. Dr.-Ing. Dr. mult. h.c. Hans-Peter Wiendahl has been director for 23 years of the Institute of Factory planning and Logistics at the Leibniz University of Hannover in Germany.Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Architekt BDA Jürgen Reichardt is Professor at the Muenster school of architecture and partner of RMA Reichardt - Maas - Associate Architects in Essen Germany.Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Peter Nyhuis is Managing Director of the Institute of Factory Planning and Logistics at the Leibniz University of Hannover in Germany.

Advanced steel design of structures
\"Advanced Steel Design of Structures examines the design principles of steel members under special loads and covers special geometric forms and conditions not typically presented in standard design books. It explains advanced concepts in a simple manner using numerous illustrative examples and MATLABھ codes. Features: Provides analysis of members under unsymmetrical bending Includes coverage of structures with special geometry and their use in offshore applications for ultra-deep water oil and gas exploration Presents numerical modeling and analysis of steel members under fire conditions, impact, and blast loads Includes MATLABھ examples that will aid in the capacity building of civil engineering students approaching this complex subject Written for a broad audience, the presentation of design concepts of steel members will be suitable for upper-level undergraduate students. The advanced design theories for offshore structures under special loads will be an attractive feature for post-graduate students and researchers. Practicing engineers will also find the book useful, as it includes numerous solved examples and practical tutorials\"-- Provided by publisher.
Film remakes
2006,2005
This is the first book to provide a comprehensive and systematic account of the phenomenon of cinematic remaking. Drawing upon recent theories of genre and intertextuality, Film Remakes describes remaking as both an elastic concept and a complex situation, one enabled and limited by the interrelated roles and practices of industry, critics and audiences. This approach to remaking is developed across three broad sections: the first, remaking as industrial category, deals with issues of production, including commerce and authors; the second, remaking as textual category, considers genre, plots and structures; and the third, remaking as critical category, investigates issues of reception, including audiences and institutions. The film remake emerges as a particular case of repetition, a function of cinematic and discursive fields that is maintained by historically specific practices, such as copyright law and authorship, canon formation and media literacy, film criticism and re-viewing. These points are made through the lively discussion of numerous historical and contemporary examples, including the remaking of classics ( Double Indemnity, All That Heaven Allows, Psycho), foreign art-films ( Yojimbo, Solaris, Le Samouraï), cult movies ( Gun Crazy, Planet of the Apes, Dawn of the Dead), and television properties ( Batman, The Addams Family, Charlie's Angels).
