In February 2017, Dmitri Beliaev and colleagues published in mexicon (vol. 39, no. 1) an article that presented the first known example of a painted scene depicting the 4th-century AD Teotituacán warlord Sihyaj K’hak’. The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA) holds in its collections a second example of a Late Classic period polychrome vessel that bears a portrait and the name of this famous, though enigmatic personage. Like on the VICAL vase described by Beliaev et al., Sihyaj K’hak’is depicted with a previously unknown Maya lord dressed in Teotihuacán garb. This paper provides a first description of the MMFA vase and its visual and textual content. On the basis of stylistic and iconographic affinities, we propose that this vessel has been produced between AD 620 and 750 in a place located north or northwest of Lake Petén Itzá, most likely in the region lying between El Zotz, Hix Witz, El Perú, and La Florida. We conclude with a discussion of the narrative behind this kind of image and the motivations that may have led Late Classic Maya elites to emphasize their connections to an illustrious, legendary foreigner and adopt Mexican clothing, symbols, and titles. En febrero del año 2017, Dmitri Beliaev y sus colegas publicaron en mexicon (vol. 39, núm. 1) un artículo que presentaba el primer ejemplo conocido de una escena pintada con una representación del señor de guerra teotihuacano Sihyaj K’hak’. El Museo de Bellas Artes de Montreal (MMFA) guarda entre sus colecciones un segundo ejemplar de vasija policromada del Clásico Tardío que lleva el retrato y nombre de éste famoso y aún enigmático personaje. Como en el caso del vaso VICAL descrito por Beliaev et al., Sihyaj K’hak’ está representado junto a un señor Maya desconocido y vestido con atuendos teotihuacanos. Éste artículo proporciona una primera descripción del contenido iconográfico y epigráfico del vaso del MMFA. En base a afinidades estilísticas e iconográficas, proponemos que ésta vasija ha sido producida entre los años 620 y 750 d.C. en un lugar ubicado al norte o noroeste del lago Petén Itzá, muy probablemente en la región que se extiende entre El Zotz, Hix Witz, El Perú, y La Florida. Concluimos con una discusión sobre la narrativa detrás de este tipo de imagen y las motivaciones que llevaron a las élites mayas del Clásico Tardío a enfatizar sus conexiones con un ilustre y legendario extranjero y adoptar vestimentas, símbolos y títulos mexicanos. Im Februar 2017 veröffentlichten Dmitri Beliaev und Kollegen in mexicon (Vol. 39, Nr. 1) einen Artikel über eine spätklassische Mayavase des Museums VICAL (Guatemala) auf welcher erstmalig eine Szene erscheint, die den Teotituacán-Kriegsherrn Sihyaj K’ahk’ aus dem 4. Jahrhundert n. Chr. darstellt. Das Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA) besitzt in seinen Sammlungen ein zweites polychromes Gefäß aus der spätklassischen Zeit, das ein Porträt und den Namen dieser wichtigen, wenn auch rätselhaften Persönlichkeit trägt. Wie auf der von Beliaev et al. beschriebenen VICAL-Vase ist Sihyaj K’ahk’ zusammen mit einem bisher unbekannten Maya-Fürsten in der Tracht von Teotihuacán dargestellt. Dieser Beitrag liefert eine erste Beschreibung der MMFA-Vase und ihres textlichen Inhalts. Auf der Grundlage stilistischer und ikonographischer Ähnlichkeiten nehmen wir an, dass dieses Gefäß zwischen 620 und 750 n. Chr. an einem Ort nördlich oder nordwestlich des Petén Itzá-Sees hergestellt wurde, wahrscheinlich in der Region zwischen El Zotz, Hix Witz, El Perú und La Florida. Wir schließen mit einer Erörterung des historischen Narrativs, das hinter dieser Art von Repräsentation steht und der Beweggründe, die die Eliten der spätklassischen Maya dazu veranlasst haben könnten, ihre Verbindungen zu einem illustren, legendären Fremden zu betonen und mexikanische Kleidung, Symbole und Titel anzunehmen.
