432 – Correlation between regional brain volume and olfactory function in very mild amnestic patients
Background & Aims: We aimed to determine neural correlates of olfactory detection and identification and analyze associations between cognitive function and olfactory identification or detection in very mild amnestic patients. Methods: We recruited 70 patients with chief complaints of memory impairment diagnosed as amnestic mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or Alzheimer’s disease (AD) with a clinical dementia rating of 0.5. Olfactory detection and identification were assessed using T&T olfactometry. A voxel-wise correlation analysis of gray matter volume and olfactometry scores was performed. We also analyzed correlations between neuropsychological results and olfactometry scores. Results: A significant negative correlation was observed between detection scores and nucleus accumbens and left parahippocampal gyrus volumes and between identification scores and orbitofrontal, right frontal, and right anterior temporal cortex volumes (p<0.001). No significant correlation existed between detection and cognitive assessment scores. Identification score was significantly correlated with the Alzheimer’s Disease Assessment Scale-Cognitive Part word recall score (r=0.305, p=0.01). Conclusions: Olfactory detection and identification dysfunction were attributable to impairments in different regions in MCI and very early AD; the former was attributed to the olfactory circuit, while the latter to neocortices. The dysfunction of identification of olfactory information was associated with episodic memory in those patients.
Development of remote identification the enterprises by digital technologies
The article is devoted to the formulation of electronic remote identification of enterprises by digital technologies. The paper determines a practical aspect of using electronic remote identification between the bank and the organizations. The article emphasizes that BankID system has great social importance and wide practical application in Nordics and Ukraine. It is analyzed the level of Ukrainian enterprises’ computerization in various industries. The shares of some industries in the structure of the Ukrainian’s GDP with the construction of a trend line are given. Authors compare states of electronic identification in the northern countries and advantages of BankID systems. The recommendations for improvement electronic remote identification the enterprises by digital technologies are made. Keywords: digitalization of finances, finance, finance of enterprises, remote identification, digital technologies, BankID, banking.
Human Identity and Bioethics
When philosophers address personal identity, they usually explore numerical identity: what are the criteria for a person's continuing existence? When non-philosophers address personal identity, they often have in mind narrative identity: Which characteristics of a particular person are salient to her self-conception? This book develops accounts of both senses of identity, arguing that both are normatively important, and is unique in its exploration of a range of issues in bioethics through the lens of identity. Defending a biological view of our numerical identity and a framework for understanding narrative identity, DeGrazia investigates various issues for which considerations of identity prove critical: the definition of death; the authority of advance directives in cases of severe dementia; the use of enhancement technologies; prenatal genetic interventions; and certain types of reproductive choices. He demonstrates the power of personal identity theory to illuminate issues in bioethics as they bring philosophical theory to life.
Vanished and vanishing parrots : profiling extinct and endangered species
\"Parrots comprise one of the most endangered groups of birds, with a growing number of species nearing extinction. The purpose of this book is to bring together information on species that have become extinct in historical times with information on species that are in danger of becoming extinct so that public awareness of the plight of these magnificent birds may be increased. The main text will comprise species accounts with accompanying illustrations. Vivid color plates will draw attention to the spectacular species that we have lost or that could be lost. There will be a comprehensive Introduction focusing on the three major regions of distribution, namely the Australasian distribution, the Afro-Asian distribution and the Neotropical distribution. The status of parrots in each of these distributions will be discussed, with particular attention given to threats that caused the extinction of species or are endangering extant species, as well as conservation measures being implemented or that should be implemented. Additionally, there will be an appendix with brief accounts of eight species with endangered subspecies. This will have a full-page color plate depicting these subspecies in field guide style illustrations\"-- Provided by publisher.
Our Biometric Future
Since the 1960s, a significant effort has been underway to program computers to see the human face to develop automated systems for identifying faces and distinguishing them from one another--commonly known as Facial Recognition Technology. While computer scientists are developing FRT in order to design more intelligent and interactive machines, businesses and states agencies view the technology as uniquely suited for smart surveillance - systems that automate the labor of monitoring in order to increase their efficacy and spread their reach.Tracking this technological pursuit, Our Biometric Future identifies FRT as a prime example of the failed technocratic approach to governance, where new technologies are pursued as shortsighted solutions to complex social problems. Culling news stories, press releases, policy statements, PR kits and other materials, Kelly Gates provides evidence that, instead of providing more security for more people, the pursuit of FRT is being driven by the priorities of corporations, law enforcement and state security agencies, all convinced of the technology's necessity and unhindered by its complicated and potentially destructive social consequences. By focusing on the politics of developing and deploying these technologies, Our Biometric Future argues not for the inevitability of a particular technological future, but for its profound contingency and contestability.
On means of individualization and means of identification
In modern society, commercial entities pay great attention to the means of individualization; however, the concepts of \"individualization\" and \"identification\", as well as the terms \"means of individualization\" and \"means of identification\" derived from them, are not differentiated in the legislation. The authors analyzed these concepts and investigated some means of individualization (registered trademarks, names of maritime and river vessels) and means of identification (registration number of the vehicle, individual number of the taxpayer, etc.) enshrined in the regulatory acts. As a result, a distinction was made between the means of individualization and identification by their purpose and corresponding function, their signs were distinguished and the characteristics of the legal regime were revealed.
