يتناول هذا الكتاب الحديث عن دولة المماليك في مصر نظرة عامة وشاملة في تاريخ أسرة المماليك الذين بدأ حكمهم سنة 1260 م وانتهى على يد السلطان سليم العثماني سنة 1517 م، كما يستكمل تاريخ الخلافة العباسية إلى حين أستولى فيه سلاطين العثمانيين على لقب الخلافة، ولم يتعمق كاتب من الكتاب مثل هذا التعمق في كتبه الشرقية التي كثيرا ما تعاكس ما كتبه المؤلفين الغرب في ضوء هذا الموضوع، وإن هذا الكتاب مناسب لكل من يريد الاطلاع والتزود بالمعلومات بهذا الموضوع أن يتقن ويحترف معرفة كل ما كتبه ويل، وقيمة هذا الكتاب تنحصر في أنه تم وضعه ليسد ثغرة في لغتنا وتاريخنا.
