يقول الكاتب بأن القصة التي يحاول روايتها في هذا الكتاب ليست تاريخا لحياة رجل اشتهى بدور لعبه في الشؤون لمغامرة قام بها ذلك بأنه بالرغم من أن مغامرات وتجارب غريبة اعترضت طريقه، فإنها لم العامة وليست لذلك سردا تكن أكثر من أشياء لا بد أن تصاحب ما كان يعتمل في داخل نفسه والكاتب يذهب إلى أبعد من ذلك فيقول إنها ليست حتى رواية بحث جازم عن الإيمان لأن ذلك الإيمان كان قد عمر نفسه خلال السنين دونما أية محاولة من قبله لإيجاده.
