يتناول الكتاب تاريخ المدنيات القديمة للمؤلف خضر آدم عيسى حيث يتكون من ثمانية فصول ويتناول الفصل الأول نشوء الحضارات ويتحدث الفصل الثاني عن ثقافات وحضارات السودان أما الفصل الثالث يتناول حضارة مصر الفرعونية والفصل الرابع يتحدث عن مدنيات بلاد ما بين الرافدين ويتناول الفصل الخامس مدنيات الشرق الأقصى أما الفصل السادس مدنيات شرق البحر الأبيض المتوسط وحوضه ويتناول الفصل السابع حضارة العرب وأخيرا الفصل الثامن يتناول حضارات العالم الجديد.
