سبق طبع هذا الكتاب في سنة 1386 هـ / 1966 م، وقد رأت دارة الملك عبد العزيز إعادة طبعه مرة أخرى ليتسنى للباحثين في تاريخ مدينة الرياض الإفادة منه، فالكتاب يقدم دراسة تاريخية لمدينة الرياض منذ جذورها الأولى، وما مر بها من أطوار، كما يتناول هذه المدينة في العهد السعودي الزاهر حين أصبحت الرياض قاعدة للبلاد، وعاصمة للمملكة العربية السعودية، وما شهدته من تطور وازدهار منذ أن استردها الملك عبد العزيز-رحمه الله-سنة 1319 هـ إلى أن أصبحت تضاهي كبرى المدن العالمية حضارة وتقدما. ولزيادة قيمة الكتاب ألحق به مؤلفه بحثين عن الآثار الحميرية في بلاد نجد، وأضاف إليه مجموعة من الصور المبرة عن تطور مدينة الرياض خلال فترة الثمانينيات الهجرية / الستينيات الميلادية.
