يتناول هذا الكتاب سيرة ذي النورين عثمان بن عفان الذي زوجه الرسول الكريم بابنته رقية، وبعد وفاتها زوجه بابنته أم كلثوم، فلما توفيت قال عليه الصلاة والسلام : لو أن لنا ثالثة لزوجناك. يتحدث الكتاب عن ابن عفان في العهد المدني، وعن خلافته، ويتكلم عن الفتح الإسلامي على الجبهة الشرقية، والجبهة الشمالية، والوجهة البحرية مع الروم البيزنطيين، ثم الجبهة الغربية. ويبين الفتنة الكبرى ومقتله رضي الله عنه، والنظم الحضارية في عهده. ويختم بذكر الأحاديث الصحيحة في فضائله من صحيح مسلم.
