كان الكتاب اكتشافا حقيقيا لوجه آخر من وجوه حسين فوزى المتعددة وجه الباحث المطلع الموسوعى وجه الأديب المطبوع على الكتابة بسلاسة وعمق وجمال عبارته ناعمة وجملته رقيقة (يذكرنى بدرجة ما بعبارة جمال حمدان الأسلوبية التى لا مثيل لها فى جمال تصويرها وانسيابية تركيبها) يعالج كتاب \"حديث السندباد القديم\" تاريخ المحيط الهندى كما عرفه البحريون العرب، فيما بين القرنين التاسع والرابع عشر أى فى المرحلة السابقة على عصر الاكتشافات الكبرى.
