بينما تحاول جمهورية إيران الإسلامية نشر نفوذها في جميع أنحاء العالمين العربي والإسلامي، فإن دعم جماعة الإخوان المسلمين السياسي والآيديولوجي للدولة الشيعية، أثبت أنه يمثل درعا مفيدا ومميزا لإيران، فعندما قللت قيادات جماعة الإخوان المصرية من شأن الاختلافات الدينية بين الشيعة والسنة، وجادلت بأن الشيعة الإثني عشرية ينبغي الاعتراف بهم كأتباع مذهب فقهي (خامس) مقبول إسلاميا، فإنها خدمت إيران بشكل هائل لمواجهة حملتين عنيفتين : (1) الحملة التي تقدودها السلفية الوهابية ضد الشيعة والتشيع. (2) حملة أنصار \"القومية العربية\" لمقاومة النفوذ السياسي المتنامي لإيران \"الفارسية\" وبهذه الطريقة، ساهم النهج الديني المسكوني (الوحدوي) للإخوان في تسهيل تقبل بعض العرب السنة للتنسيق السياسي مع إيران، ويبدو أنه فتح أيضا المجتمعات السنية بشكل متزايد للتبشير الديني الشيعي.
