الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا واحد من الكتب التاريخية الكثيرة وهو يبدأ بالعودة إلى الوراء فوراء دمشق سبعة آلاف سنة من التاريخ أو تزيد تغيرت الدنيا وتبدلت المعالم ولولا بقايا من الأمس البعيد لهذا البلد أبقى عليها الدهر صخرا وأثرا ولم تكتسحها سيول الأسمنت المسلح وتفترس الأخضر واليابس لما عرفنا الماضي الذي ذكره فدمشق كانت في زمن المؤلف أي قبل مئة وعشرين سنة لا تختلف كثيرا عما كانت عليه قبل ألف أو ألفين مما تعدون.
