يجمع هذا الكتاب بين دفتيه آراء مختلفة لمجموعة من المفكرين العرب المعاصرين، هو التأسيس لوعي نقدي، فالنقد هو مكون من مكونات النظر الفلسفي الغربي، مستشهدا بمدرسة فرانكفورت مع كلٍ من إدورنو وهوركهايمر وماركوز وهابرماس، وقبل ذلك مع ديكارت وكانط تتمحور أطروحات الكتاب حول إشكالية الحداثة في الفكر العربي المعاصر، ومن خلال تتبعنا لمنجزات الفكر الحداثي كما عبر عنها مضمون الكتاب، نستنتج بشيء من الموضوعية والحياد، أن المنطق وفكر الحداثة صنوان متحابان وأن الحداثة هي الأخت الرضيعة للمنطق بلغة ابن رشد ولا تنازع بينهما إلا في دائرة الأيديولوجيات.
