يتلخص الكتاب بالحديث عن مفهوم ان التطور في مجال الانتاج الصناعي الذي حصل بفضل التقدم العلمي التكنلوجي والذي ادى إلى ظهور العديد من المنتجات الجديدة والمتنوعة، أسهمت في تيسير وتطوير حياة الإنسان، ولكن على الرغم من كل ما حققه هذا التطور من فوائد بالنسبة لجمهور المستهلكين، إلا أنه في الواقع لم يخل من بعض المضار بالنسبة للمستهلكين ويرجع سبب ذلك إلى إن جانبا من الأضرار التي تحصل بسبب المنتجات، لا ترجع إلى وجود عيب في تصنيعها وإنما ترجع إلى جهل حائزي ومستعملي هذه المنتجات في كيفية استعمالها ومخاطر هذا الاستعمال، نظرا لعدم احاطتهم علما بهذه الامور مسبقا من قبل مصنعي وموزعي هذه المنتجات.
