يناقش هذا الكتاب ديناميات السياسة الداخلية في إيران منذ العهد الصفوي حتى الآن، وما شهدته البلاد من فساد سياسي وإداري قاد في طبيعة الحال إلى فساد اقتصادي ومالي وأخلاقي تسبب في سقوط أنظمة حاكمة، فعلى مدى العقود العابرة، بزغت بلاد فارس أو إيران كدولة دينية سياسية تتبنى نهج الإسلام السياسي الشيعي، ثم تحولت في العهد البهلوي إلى دولة علمانية أزاحت هيمنة رجال الدين الشيعة في الحكومة والمجتمع، لتعاود الكرة مرة أخرى بعد نجاح الثورة عام 1979 إلى دولة دينية ذات تركيز كبير على الأيديولوجيات القومية المعادية للإمبريالية.
