لا يمكن اختصار قيمة كتاب الاعتبار في كونه \"الأول من نوعه\" بين السير الذاتية، إنما تكمن القيمة الأكبر في أنه من الأعمال النادرة التي تناولت \"المسكوت عنه\" في تاريخ الحروب الصليبية، سواء طبيعة حياة الإفرنج في المشرق العربي، أو ما كان يجري في دهاليز القوى الإسلامية المتصارعة، والجانب الإنساني من التفاعل بين العرب المحليين والمستوطنين الإفرنج. كما تناول التأثير الثقافي والاجتماعي العربي في الإفرنج. تلك التفاصيل التي يخطئ البعض باعتبارها مجرد \"طرائف\"، بينما هي تدوين وحفظ دقيق لجوانب أخرى من التفاعل العربي الأوروبي، قل أن تضمنتها كتابات تلك الفترة. ولم يتوقف ابن منقذ عند مجرد عرضها، بل تجاوز ذلك لتحليلها وتفسيرها والتعليق عليها، بشكل يجمع بين سلاسة اللغة وعلمية الأسلوب في آن واحد.
