يتناول كتاب (كتاب الأربعين في فضل الدعاء والداعين) والذي قامه بتأليفه (أبي الحسن علي بن المفضل المقدسي) في حوالي (631) صفحة من القطع المتوسط موضوع (الأدعية والأوراد) مستعرضا المحتويات التالية : فيما يستحب من الكلام بعد الفراغ من الطعام، فيما يقوله عند إتيان أهله ليأمن من الشيطان على نسله، فيما يستحب من الدعاء لمن أراد دخول الخلاء، فيما يقوله في ليله ونهاره حين يخرج من داره ، فيما يستحب من ذكر نعم الله وشكرها لراكب الدابة إذا استوى على ظهرها، فيما يتعوذ به الله جل وعلا إذا نزل منزلا، في الرقية لمن عرض له عارض من مرض، فيما يستحب للحاضر أن يودع به المسافر، فيما يستحب للمرء أن يذكره إذا دخل المقبرة، في الصلاة على النبي الكريم صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وصحبه وسلم أفضل التسليم.
