استحضار الذكريات لدى طاغور تمثل فتح باب الذاكرة على طائفة من الرسوم، فالذكريات ليست تاريخا، بل هي إبداعات أصيلة للفنان غير المنظور. والألوان المتنوعة المتناثرة ليست انعكاسا للعالم الخارجي، بل ملكا للرسام نفسه، وتنبع رغبة يشوبها لون خفيف من قلبه، لذا لا تصلح كتابة سجل على هذا النسيج كدليل في المحكمة. لكن على الرغم من عدم جدوى محاولة طاغور في جمع قصة منطقية دقيقة من مخزن ذاكرته ؛ إلا أن سحر وإثارة خلط الصور استحوذ عليه، فاستحضرها في ذهنه واستنطقها كلمات يقدم من خلالها على هذه الصفحات صور ذاكرته كمادة أدبية. ومن الخطأ اعتبارها سيرة ذاتية، وإلا فإنها ستبدو حشوا وإطنابا زائدا، وغير تامة.
