يلقي جمال في كتابه الضوء، بالمعلومات والصور، على 21 محطة في تاريخ العملة في الكويت، مبينا أن تاريخ أول عملة استخدمت في الكويت يرجع تقريبا إلى العام 300 قبل الميلاد، حيث اكتشفت حملات التنقيب التي جرت في جزيرة فيلكا في عامي 1958 و1959 نقودا، منها ثلاث قطع نحاسية ضرب إحداها سلوقس الأول باسم الإسكندر الأكبر بين عامي 310 و300 ق. م، بينما تعود القطعتان الأخريان إلى عهد أنطيوخوس الثالث (223-187 ق. م). كما يلقي المؤلف الضوء على العملات التي راجت في الكويت في الفترات المتقدمة من تاريخها : طويلة الحسا، الليرة العثمانية، الغران الإيراني، الريال النمساوي، الجنيهات الذهبية الإنكليزية والفرنسية، الريال البرغشي الزنجباري، البيزة العمانية. ويشير إلى أن أول محاولة لإصدار عملة وطنية كويتية كانت في عام 1886، حيث تم سك \"البيزة\" النحاسية وتداولها لفترة قصيرة ثم سحبت من الأسواق، ويعرض تاريخ الروبية الهندية في الكويت، قبل أن يسلط الضوء على إصدارات الدينار الكويتي بدءا من عام 1961، حتى الإصدار السادس عام 2014.
