يتحدث هذا الكتاب عن صحابي جليل، شهير هو عبد الله بن عباس. قالوا عنه : كان يسمى\"البحر\" لسعة علمه ويسمى \"حبر الأمة\". وقال هو من نفسه \"ضمني رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وسلم) وقال : \"اللهم علمه الحكمة\". وقيل فيه كان ابن عباس قد فات الناس بخصال : بعلم ما سبقه، وفقه فيما احتج إليه من رأيه، وحلم ونسب وتأويل، وما رأيت أحدا كان أعلم بما سبقه من حديث رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وسلم) منه ولا أعلم بشعر، ولا عربية، ولا بتفسير القرآن، ولا بحساب، ولا بفريضة منه ولا أثقب رأيا فيما احتيج إليه منه. ولقد كان يجلس يوما، ولا يذكر فيه إلا الفقه، ويوما التأويل، ويوما المغازي، ويوما الشعر، ويوما أيام العرب. ولا رأيت عالما جلس إليه إلا خضع له وما رأيت سائلا قط إلا وجد عنده علما ذاك هو الصحابي الذي سيقترب القارئ منه أكثر من خلال صفحات هذا الكتاب.
