يتناول الكتاب العديد من المباحث، فبعد مبحث (المؤلف المخرج) في تاريخ الدراما الإغريقية والرومانية والعصور الوسطى وعهد النهضة، انتقل لمبحث ثان هو تحولات العلامة في تجارب (المخرج المؤلف) عالميا ثم تناول المحور في بعده العراقي ليتعرض لتجارب قاسم محمد وعقيل مهدي وسعدي يونس، ليخلص بعدها إلى جواد الأسدي أنموذجا، فتوقف عند ثلاثة من أعمال الأسدي هي (ليالي أحمد بن ماجد) و(حمام بغدادي) و(نساء في الحرب) ليخلص إلى فصل ثالث خصصه للنتائج و الاستنتاجات.
