يتناول موضوع الكتاب مستقبل الوجود المسيحي في العراق. وينطلق من فرضية مفادها أن الوجود التاريخي للمسيحيين في العراق يتعرض للتهديد في ظل استمرار السياسة الأمريكية الرامية إلى تفكيك النسيج الاجتماعي العراقي وإعادة صياغة البنية السياسية والاجتماعية وفق نمط التفكيك والتقسيم الذي يبقي على مصالحها في العراق، وفي ظل رغبة القوى المحلية المتحكمة في المشهد السياسي العراقي من فرض ولايتها ووصايتها على العراق والاستئثار بحكمه وتهميش الآخرين عبر ممارسة شتى أنواع التضييق والتهميش والإبعاد والتهجير ضدهم، وهو ما سيرتب آثارا سلبية واضحة على مستقبل الوحدة الوطنية في العراق.
