لطالما أثار موضوع الانطباعات الأولى الإهتمام منذ القدم وما يزال محل الاهتمام ذاته في عالمنا المعاصر، فقد ظل الناس ولقرون يعيشون في المجتمعات التي يولدون فيها ويكونون العلاقات ويتواصلون ويقيمون علاقات عمل مع أناس يعرفون كل شيء عن حياتهم، غير أننا نعيش الآن في قرن ينتقل فيه الناس للعيش في مساكن ومدن جديدة ويغيرون أعمالهم ويكونون صداقات ما تتكرر بحيث يصعب وعلاقات جديدة بوتيرة أسرع من ذي قبل، لذا فإن اللقاءات الأولى كثيرا إحصاؤها، فقد نتفاعل مع شخص جديد في كل يوم مثل والد أحد الأولاد في مدرستنا الخاصة أو مع زميل أو زبون جديد في العمل أو مع موظف المتجر أو مع أحد الأشخاص في النادي الرياضي أو في صف المقهى.
