يحيط المؤلف في الكتاب بتاريخ المرابطين منذ نشأتها وحتى سقوطها، ويتعرض لسنن الله في بناء الدول وإحياء الشعوب، فيعطي نبذة تاريخية عن أصول القبائل التي قامت عليها دولة المرابطين، فيتكلم عن مواطنها ومواقعها وحياتها الاجتماعية والسياسية والاقتصادية والدينية قبل دخول الامام عبد الله بن ياسين في قلب الصحراء الكبرى لدعوة قبائل صنهاجة إلى الإسلام وكيف تعامل ذلك الامام مع تلك القبائل وجعل منها أمة تحمل الإسلام عقيدة ودعوة ومنهجا، كما يتحدث عن علاقة هذه الدولة بالخلافة العباسية ودولة بني حماد، وملوك الطوائف والإسبان والنصارى.
