يعتبر هذا الكتاب من أبرز مؤلفات محمد بن علي بن طباطبا المعروف بابن الطقطقي، وقد قسمه إلى قسمين : الأول في آداب السلاطين والملوك التي يجب أن يتصفوا بها ليدوم حكمهم ويخلد ذكرهم، والقسم الثاني في الدول الإسلامية وهي دولة الخلفاء الراشدين ودولة بني أمية ودولة بني العباس. ثم تناول ما تشعب من هذه الدولة العظيمة من دول صغيرة كدولة بني بويه والسلجوقيين والفاطميين بمصر على سبيل الإجمال والاختصار. وهذا الكتاب غني عن الإشادة بذكره فلقد جمع إلى الفائدة الأدبية والتاريخية متانة الألفاظ وبلاغة الأسلوب فلا يستغني عنه مؤرخ أو أديب.
