\"ابن بطوطة\" رحالة مشهور، دفعه حبه للسفر والتجوال إلى القيام بثلاث رحلات زار فيها مختلف أنحاء العالم المعروف في زمانه وكانت رحلته الأولى سنة 725 هـ / 1325 م، أنطلق فيها من طنجة قاصدا الحج وقد استغرقت رحلاته الثلاث تسعاً وعشرين سنة، طاف فيها شمالي أفريقيا وشرق المتوسط ووصل إلى الهند والصين والقوقاز وروسيا وأجزاء من أوروبا وتعرف على الملوك والسلاطين وعمل لهم وخالط المشايخ والصوفية والناس وتعرض لأهوال كثيرة شائقة مثبوتة في الكتاب.
