الكتاب یعد وثیقة تاریخیة لفترات مختلفة من تاریخ مدینة الحلة في القرن العشرین وھي مذكرات لامرأة ھي نجاة نایف سلطان وخمسة رجال ھم (الطبیب ھاري سندرسن والطبیب محمد زایر الرشید وناجي شوكت وأحمد زكي الخیاط وعبد الجبار الراوي)، الكتاب یضم مقدمة ومدخل من أربعة فقرات الاولى عن الكتاب والفكرة والثانیة عن الحلة ومكانتھا والثالثة عن التعلیم في الحلة والرابعة عن الطب في الحلة، وضم مذكرات ستة من الذین عملوا في الحلة خلال فترات مختلفة من القرن العشرین، وضم الكتاب ملحق لصور من مدینة الحلة.
