يتناول المؤلف في هذا الكتاب \"تاريخ العراق الحديث والمعاصر\" بدءا من الصراع العثماني الصفوي على العراق، مرورا بحكم المماليك، والتوسع المصري قي بلاد ااشام وأثره على العراق، تحدث عن العراق في نهاية العهد العثماني وبداية النفوذ البريطاني وانتباد بريطانيا على العراق والعهد الفيصلي، حركات التحرر العراقية أثناء الحرب العالمية الثانية وبعدها وثورة 1957 وما تلى ذلك من صراعات على السلطة بين الانقلابيين حتى استقر الأمر لصدام حسين وحربه مع إيران واحتلاله الكويت ونهايته باحتلال الولايات المتحدة العراق وما تلى ذلك الاحتلال حتى العصر الحاضر.
