الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا يقدم بعض الأنواع الأكثر إثارة من اللافقريات وإنها متعددة الخلايا، تعمل خلاياها معا من أجل إبقاء حياتها، لكل خلية مهام معينة ومسؤوليات محددة ولها إلى جانب الخلايا أنسجة بإستثناء الإسفنجيات، معظمها يتكاثر مثل الفقريات، تجتمع أمشاج (المشيج : خلية إستمرار النمو) الذكر والأنثى وتكون كائن حي جديد، تبدأ اللافقريات في التحرك وهي لا زالت صغيرة جدا ؛ بعض الحيوانات اللافقرية مثل جراد البحر والحشرات تواصل التحرك طوال مراحل حياتها.
