يضم هذا الكتاب بحوثا تناولت موضوعات تتصل بالرواية العربية الحديثة وقضاياها، على ضوء الدراسات النقدية الحديثة، من مثل قضايا التجنيس والتلقي والفضاء وعلاقة الرواية بالتاريخ والثقافة والتراث وتقنية الأجناس المجاورة. وقد تناولت هذه البحوث عددا من الروايات التي تعد معالم في حركة الرواية العربية الحديثة، تتعدد في تقنياتها وخطابها، ولكنها تشترك جميعا في قدرتها على تمثيل قاعدة واسعة من اتجاهات الإبداع الروائي في العقود الأربعة الأخيرة، مثلما تعكس قضاياها الأساسية التي تناولها النقد الروائي العربي والعالمي. وتأتي هذه البحوث في سياق خيار النقد العربي الحديث في تقاطعه مع سياق خيار السرد العربي الحديث، تحاول أن تضيء بعض الجوانب في مسار حركة الرواية العربية في العقود الأخيرة من القرن العشرين.
