هذا الكتاب يحدثنا فيه الشهرستاني، أولا عن الخلافات التي وقعت في الوحدة الإسلامية، مبينا الفرق الإسلامية وغير الإسلامية التي ظهرت بعد عهد النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم وما لهم من آراء ومعتقدات وكتب وهو في حديثه عن الفرق الغير الإسلامية أخذ يذكر أهل الكتاب من اليهود والنصارى وأشهر فرقهم وما أرتاه أصحاب السبت، من استقباح النسخ وما فعلته السامرة، من عبادة العجل وما أعلنوه من أن لا نبوة لغير \"موسى\" \"ويوشع\" عليهما السلام وما اختلفت فيه النصارى وبدلوه وغيروه في إنجيلهم وقولهم في الواحد الأحد إنه ثلاثة أقانيم وما ابتدعته الملكانية، من امتزاج الكلمة بجسد المسيح وقد وصفوه بأنه ناسوت كلي لا جزئي.
