هذا الكتاب نشرته دار كونستيبل وشركاه فى عام 1933، أى منذ أكثر من سبعين عاما. هل كتب فليبى هذا الكتاب لإماطة اللثام عن الألوان الجذابة التى أضفاها على الربع الخالى بعض الرحالة الأوروبيين والعرب المستقرين الذين لم يدخلوا الربع الخالى مطلقا حتى يروا ما بداخله ؟ أم لأن عبور الربع الخالى فى حد ذاته مغامرة يجب ألا يستخف بها أولئك الذين ليست لديهم بسائط الخبرة والتجربة ؟
