يشمل هذا الكتاب المحن والشدائد والابتلاءات التي تصيب المسلم لتنقيه كالذهب حينا يستخرج خاما لا بد أن وضع في النار حتى ينقى من الشوائب، ويصير ذا قيمة، كذلك تفعل المحن والشدائد والابتلاءات بالمسلمين. وإن من السنن الكونية بين الصادق والكاذب منهم، ومن هنا يتبين للمسلم أن لهم، وتمحيصا لذنوبهم، وتمييزا وقوع البلاء على المخلوقين اختبارا للمحن فوائد كثيرة، قد تبدو له حالة نزول البلاء به، وقد لا تزل. ومنها : أنها تظهر الصديق من العدو، وتعرف الإنسان محبيه. وفي المحن يبحث، وأما المبغض فيقف وراءك شامتا من مبغضيه، فيظهرون وقت الشدة ؛ أما المحب فيقف بجانبك منصفا لك المبحون عذر، والمبغضون يبحثون لك عن عثرة، والمنصفون يوازنون الأمور حتى يحكموا بالعدل.
