هذا الكتاب هو ترجمة كاملة للباب الثاني بعنوان \"السبب\" وللباب الثالث بعنوان \"نية التعاقد\" من القسم الثاني من كتاب باللغة الإنجليزية بعنوان \"Law of Contracts\" لشيشر وفيفوت وفيرمستون وقد صدرت الطبعة التاسعة للكتاب في يونيو 1976 وقد تناول الكتاب وظيفة السبب وتعريفها ثم تحدث عن السبب التبادلي والسبب المنفذ والسبب الماضي. ثم تكلم عن وجوب صدور السبب ممن وجه إليه الوعد، ثم تناول معايير كفاية السبب وعدم كفاية السبب. أما في الباب الثالث فتحدث الكتاب عن نية التعاقد وقصد إنشاء علاقة قانونية، مستعرضا مختلف الاتفاقات العائلية والتجارية.
