تغطي هذه اليوميات فترة عصيبة ومضطربة (1953ـ1957)، تسبق مباشرة العدوان الثلاثي على مصر في تشرين الأول/أكتوبر 1956 وتليه. وكان شاريت على خلاف دائم مع دافيد بن - غوريون، الزعيم الصهيوني البارز وأول رئيس حكومة لإسرائيل، بخصوص السياسة الخارجية والعسكرية. ولأن شاريت أفضى في يومياته أفكاره ومآخذه على بن - غوريون، يعتبر هذا العمل نظرة فريدة إلى عملية صنع القرار في إسرائيل. وتستند الترجمة إلى النص العبري الذي نشره ابن شاريت سنة 1978.
