يتناول المؤلف جلال الدين محمد بن عبد الرحمن القزوينى الخطيب في هذا الكتاب العديد من الموضوعات والمحاور المهمة في علوم البلاغة فيتناول في الفن الأول علم المعاني أحوال الإسناد الخبري وأحوال المسند إليه وأحوال المسند وأحوال متعلقات الفعل والقصر والإنشاء والفصل والوصل وفي الفن الثاني وهو علم البيان يتناول التشبيه والحقيقة والمجاز والاستعارة بالكناية ومذهب السكاكي في الحقيقة والمجاز وفيمام به تحسن الاستعارة وفي المجاز بالحذف والزيادة وفي الفن الثالث وهو علم البديع وتناول المطابقة والأرصاد ومراعاة النظير والمشاكلة والزاوجة والعكس والرجوع والتورية والجمع واللف والنشر والمذعب الكلامي وحسن التعليل وتأكيد المدح بما يشبه الذم وغير ذلك من المحاور الهامة.
