المهارة هي فن تمكن الإعلامي من تقديم عملة بالشكل المطلوب، والمناسب، وبالتالي يمكن للإعلامي المبتدأ أن يكتسبها عن طريق التدريب المستمر، وتتطلب المهارة حرفة وذكاء من أجل تقديم أداء يتناسب مع حجم الوسيلة المستخدمة بطريقة ناجحة. لذا تولد لدي فكرة تأليف هذا الكتاب لكي يحدد المهارات التي يمتاز بها القائم بالإتصال في الإعلام المرئي العراقي، وكيفية تطويرها، فضلا عن لفت أنظار المسؤولين الإعلاميين إلى ضرورة الإهتمام بالمهارات الإعلامية، لاسيما في ظل الكم الهائل من وسائل الإتصال المرئية، والسمعية، والمكتوبة، فضلا عن الطفرة النوعية في عالم الإعلام والتي تتمثل بمواقع التواصل الاجتماعي، إذ كل هذه العوامل تتطلب مهارات إعلامية لكي تمنح الإعلامي قدرة لمواجهة الصعوبات وضغوط العمل، وبالتالي يمكن أن نصل إلى عملية إعلامية هادفة ومؤثرة.
