يتناول موضوع الكتاب عن عين التمر التي كانت تعتبر مركز كربلاء الاقتصادي والديني والاجتماعي وبعد واقعة عاشوراء وما ضمته كربلاء من الأجساد الطاهرة برزت كربلاء لأهميتها الدينية والحضارية وكانت قد شيدت قبل واقعة الطف وبعدها العديد من الأبنية الحضارية والشواخص أهمها الأخيضر، قصر مقاتل، المجمع الكنسي وقد قسم الكتاب على أربعة محاور رئيسية هي فصولها، تناول الفصل الأول : الذي ينقسم إلى مبحثين : أ-عن كربلاء والتسميات والتأصيل والنشأة، ب-كان عرضا لتأريخ كربلاء الضارب بعمق التأريخ، أما الفصل الثاني : كشف عن معلومات جديدة وعن آلية عرضها وتقييمها للأبنية العامة في كربلاء، أما الفصل الثالث : تناول تقنيات وأساليب البناء، ثم الفصل الرابع : كانت الخاتمة والاستنتاجات وعرض قائمة المصادر.
