البلدانيات أربعون حديثا، عن أربعين شيخا، من أربعين بلدا قد دخلها المؤلف جزء لطيف في الأحاديث البلدانية، خرج فيها المؤلف أربعين حديثا، رواها عن أربعين شيخا إلتقى بهم في أربعين بلدا إذ كانت الرحلة عند السلف هي الأصل في جمع العلم ومن لوازم طالب العلم، تعينه على جمع الفوائد ولقاء الشيوخ فيعود برواية بيت شعر، أو موعظة أو طرفة، إضافة إلي الإجازات العلمية وتحصيل الأسانيد في الروايات وقد طاف المؤلف عددا من البلدان في مشارق الأرض ومغاربها، وإلتقى بشيوخ ومسندين من كافة الأقطار، استجازهم وروى عنهم، وسجل طرفا من أخبار تلك الرحلات ومآثر تلك البلدان، مع حديث يرويه بالسند المتصل عن أحد شيوخها.
