برزت ظاهرة شراء الأراضي من قبل اليهود منذ عام 1836م وكانت تسير ضمن العقود الطبيعية كمواطنين على الأرض الفلسطينية إلا أن هذه الظاهرة أخذت منعطفا أو منحنى جديدا بعد مؤتمر بازل عام 1897م، من خلال العمل المنظم من قبل اليهود من أجل شراء الأراضي تمهيدا لتحقيق ما يسمى بالحلم الصهيوني والمتمثل بإنشاء دوله يهودية على الأراضي الفلسطينية.
