تمثل البيئة أهمية كبيرة بالنسبة للمجتمعات، ولذلك هي بحاجة لمن يحافظ عليها لذلك يقع على عاتق التربية البيئية مسؤولية كبيرة في تنمية الوعي البيئي لدى العاملين في المجال التربوي الرياضي، فالمدرسة بإعتبارها مؤسسة تربوية تقدم خدماتها إلى الطلبة عبر دروس وبرامج مختلفة ومنها درس التربية البدنية الذي يحتوي على برمج تقدم إلى الطلبة لكي يمارسوا نشاطاتهم الرياضية وقد أولت هذا النشاط إهتمام كبير لكي يحقق العرض والهدف الذي وضع من أجله، ويمكن من خلال درس التربية البدنية تعزيز المفاهيم المرتبطة بالصحة والتوعية البيئية وربط عناصر التربية البيئية بمتطلبات النشاط الرياضي لتعزيز مفهوم التوافق بين البيئة والرياضة ومعرفة تأثيرات الرياضة على البيئة، وكذلك تأثير البيئة على الرياضيين.
