يتحدث هذا الكتاب عن محمد بن موسى الخوارزمي حيث أسس الخوارزمي علم الجبر كعلم مستقل عن الحساب وأخذه الأوربيون عن هو أول من استعمل كلمة الجبر للعلم المعروف الأن بهذا الاسم ويعد كتاب الجبر والمقابلة من أشهر كتب الخوارزمي وهو الكتاب الذي ألفه لما يلزم الناس من الحاجة إليه في مواريثهم ووصاياهم وفي أحكامهم وتجارتهم وفي سنة خمسين وثمانمائة من الميلاد توفي الخوارزمي بعد أن ملأ الدنيا علما.
