هي رواية تتناول حقبة زمنية مهمة وخطيرة طالما أعدها الباحثون بان ماحدث فيها من مواقف وقرارات وقوانين وأحداث دامية لا تزال أثارها تفعل مفاعيلها على ما يحدث في العراق من صعوبات كبيرة، إنها مرحلة تأسيس الجمهورية الأولى من 1958-1963، ولنرى كيف يصف السارد تلك المرحلة في استهلال الرواية وما تحويه الكلمات من نقد مبطن لكل الانقلابات العسكرية بالعراق والوطن العربي \"أصبح من المألوف إن بضعة رجال تقوم بتنظيم حزبا في جلسة مسائية ومن ثم تصاغ أهدافه وكلها تنصب في تغيير الواقع، وزق الحياة بالتجديد لكي يتنعم الشعب بالرفاهية، لانه عانا منذ قرون وعند الصباح ينتهي كل شيء\".
