يسعى تشومسكي إلى فكرة جديدة في ميدان الفلسفة السياسية؛ وهي ربط السياسة باللغة؛ وهذا الربط لا نراه عند أي فيلسوف عداه؛ ويرجع ذلك إلى كونه عالما في اللغويات واهتمامه بالسياسة؛ خاصة إذا علمنا أن هذين الميدانين اللذين أهتم بهما يرجع إلى بيئته المنزلية؛ فوالده كان عالم لغويات وكتب في اللغة العبرية؛ ووالدته كانت مهتمة بالأحداث السياسية؛ وكثيرا ما كانا يتناقشان عندما يتناولون الأكل. فالربط الذي قام به تشومسكي نتيجة أن الايديولوجيا المختلفة الذي يصوغها علماء الفكر؛ تعتمد في مقامها الأول إلى القدرة البارعة في صياغة قوالب لغوية مؤثرة وفعالة.
