هذا الكتاب محاولة لبيان موقع هذه الحركة في إطار مسار الفكر اليوناني وما حمله روادها من أفكار وآراء حيث أن السوفسطائية إسم أطلق على النشاط الكبير الذي قام به عدد من المعلمين الجوالين في البلاد الناطقة باليونانية منتصف القرن الخامس قبل الميلاد وقد أثارت الآراء والأفكار والأطروحات التي حملها رواد هذه المدرسة الكثير من الجدل بما مثلته من تقدم على الأصعدة الفكرية والإجتماعية والسياسية مما أثار حفيظة الكثير من الفلاسفة والمفكرين وانتهى بها إلى أن تقترن بهذه الصورة الشائهة التي دخلت الاستخدام العام لها.
